At Auschwitz-Birkenau the words of George Santayana greet visitors:  "Those who do not understand history are obliged to repeat it."  History's engagement with the diverse and complex past of humanity provides an excellent opportunity for understanding and appreciating contemporary culture and civilization. The Bachelor's degree in history prepares students for careers in organizations such as federal, state, and local legislative bodies, the executive and judicial branches of government, regulatory, cultural, and international agencies, and private non-profit firms. A history degree also provides valuable preparation for graduate study in law or public administration. A Bachelor of Arts degree option is also available.
